How do I Spacefly?
Reply to this Post

You know, the insane high-speed flying Uchiha Madao does in this game... Kinda wanna learn how to do it. I've mastered Boost Sliding and want to try Spaceflying. How do I do it?

There isn't a technique in F-Zero X called"spaceflying" unless you're talking about F-Zero GX (in which case, wrong forum Razz). The technique that sounds closest to "spaceflying" in this game is the Air Ground Glitch, but I'm pretty sure Uchiha never used AGG so that's not it.

Are you talking about Double-Tap Dives / DTDs? They look like this:

Or are you talking about something that uses a cheat/hack/code like this:

Oh. Then Double-Tap Dive would be it. How do I do that?

Best track to do it would be the first Port Town track. Take your ship and get yourself floating off of the jump point. Angle your ship so that it is angled towards the left or right, and downwards: Pull the stick back, then to either left or right, and then push the stick back forwrard. At that point, start tapping R if your ship is angled left, looking like -> /  ,or Z if your ship is angled right, looking like -> \  . If done correctly, you should be diving and reaching at at least 1500 kmh depending on how far down the ship's nose is angled.

That's how I learned it. Someone more knowledgeable can put it better. But what's important is that it takes a bit of practice to be able to do it off of high jumps (PT1, MC2, WL1, FF1, SB, RC2, MC3, RR,SP are good examples), and then any jump (SO1, BB1, RC1, DF2, WL2 for example).

Thanks! Since I don't have the Blood Hawk or Night Thunder, I have to use Deep Claw to do it. It's tough, and I think I'm progressively getting the hang of it!

Look at many videos and try to mimic as best as you can. Basically, you point the nose of the machine downwards + tilt the machine to one side while in mid-air and chain a bunch of side-attacks together.

I first started doing DTDs on Red Canyon 1 so that might be a decent place to start. What I did was (boost)slide off the edge of a drop so that I was heading about 10-25 degrees off where the road ahead of me was, then I'd side attack towards the track. So as an example of a rough step-by-step process (swap"left" and "right" when needed):

Step 1: Do a right (boost)slide. Step 2: Steer left just after the road ends. Step 3: Once the machine is facing straight (not towards the track), side-attack to the left (mash Z) and steer yourself back towards the track. The entire movement would look a bit like a curve. Once you're doing that, start pointing the nose of the machine downwards more and more during step 3, step 2 as well once you're getting used to it.

Here's a video reference for what I just explained:

Once you're used to doing smaller DTDs on Red Canyon, try doing bigger DTDs on, say, Port Town 1. Do a boost-railslide to the left, push the stick up+left just before you leave the track, switch to up+right just after you leave the track, then side-attack to the right (mash R) while still holding up+right. Video reference:

Eventually, you should try DTDs that use a ~1 second long aerial setup (videos for what aerial setups look like down below). One last thing to note is that at first, it may not be immediately obvious if you need to mash Z or R for a DTD that uses an aerial setup. What I do is look at which side of the machine is facing upwards the most and side-attack on that side (so left facing upwards most = mash Z, right = mash R). I say this because I spent waaaaay more time than I would like to admit on Rainbow Road doing everything correctly except side-attack on the correct side, so be wary of my silly little mistakes so you don't repeat them. Wink
