The F-Zero X Next Generation Tournament

F-Zero X Next Generation Tournament (NGT) is a collection of tracks meant to serve as a new experience for newcomers and veterans alike of the F-Zero community. It consists of 24 entirely new, and bigger tracks that offers you to race every single one on any difficulty setting without leaving you stranded alone while the CPU dies during the first corner, or jump.
Building courses or even entire track packs that falls under these criterias aren't anything new; Relm succeeded gracefully to this norm years ago during her first installment titled 1st Lap and even continued to do so in her second pack as well. I very much admire that skill, to be able to create something that appeals to a greater audience whilst maintaining the basic mechanics. So I made sure I could add something new to the formula. Sheer track size has definitely been experimented with a few dusin times already, and I wasn't gonna steep to the extremes of the Hyperspeed Circuits or anything now that we're racing at normal speed, but I wanted to try and make use of most the space the EK utilizes and thereby make good use of the dash plates. I mean I can testify, and I bet most people can too- that the first couple of tracks you made after getting your hands on an EK or the FZX_EP was built for size.

Mainly the inspiration came from my previous two tracksets that of which I wasn't very happy with now looking back. Key word being consistency, or lack there of. Therefore I made sure the rise in difficulty in NGT feels somewhat natural and not too steep.
Difficulty speaking I'm trying to maintain the CPU friendly aspect of it all so when I'm talking difficulty I might refer to sharper turns, tiny roads, less walls, trap fields etc. I'm not necessarily relying on the player to know the advanced moveset seeing as the CPU don't.


When it comes to the actual tracks themselves and my progress thus far it feels as if I've contributed a lifetime's worth of work on these, making sure I'm 100% happy with every nook and cranny. I don't wanna look back two or three months after its initial release and think "ah damn I could've made that so much better".

UPDATE:

I went back and had a look at king cup and quickly came to the conclusion that most of it was rubbish apart from one track. right now i've got 4 tracks done and even started recording footage for a third preview that'll most likely be out by march.

i didn't come empty handed either, i also brought along some screenshots.

 

 

 

 

Don't pay attention to the name in the bottom corner, everything's been mixed back and forth so these names aren't neccesarily in the correct order.

 nice going.

this reminds me i have to get my ass on gear and do a few tracks i have in mind. i'm waiting for my HDMI N64 before i start playing FZX again because i want the best possible video quality for anything i record.

i also need to get around posting the rest of my tracks and doing an update to my track packs since i want to replace some of the weaker tracks with my later tracks.

Nice to see the custom track community is still lively! I just recently watched the F-Zero UchiX videos to get some inspiration, and I got quite a bit from seeing them. So thank you for that, UchihaSasuke.

Not meaning to hijack the thread or anything, but I also have a set of 24 in the works, following how mediocre I thought of my first set from four years ago. I have all varieties of tracks to offer, and I'm trying to have their lengths as close to the tracks they are replacing so it won't be a pain to clear the game with all of them in...unless I mean to make the AI tough against the player.

I want to post a preview, but unlike Effendi here, I arrive empty handed. For now.

Thunder_Luigi: Yeah by time I too felt as though several tracks I did for my first two track packs (GPT & Generation) were either too challanging or vice versa for which spot I had replaced them with. Case in point, my Big Blue track for the queen cup for the Generation Pack was way too difficult, though I gotta say it was a joy watching Piccolo struggling as much as he did with his playthrough of it, and I think through that video that track became the most memorable out of them all.
So for this project I will be creating only when I feel like it, I want nothing to be forced, which is mainly why there's been a slight pause over the course of a year now in between cups. If by any chance I later on decides that I'm not too happy with ether one of my creations, I will post the coordinates here and leave them as a beta. As of now White Land 1 (the fifth queen track) I've decided to remove and replace with something else, in a couple of days I will find some time off to post the coordinates here.

I'm also the same, here, in regards to not forcing the project. Ever since I've returned to the swing of things in being able to create stuff again, I've given myself a relaxed, but not too generous, of a deadline for this project of June 2016. As of this post, I am at 15/24 courses with one among them to revise. Spring break is coming for my campus here, and that's time to produce and release a quick video announcing my project.

Ha ha don't feel bad, mate. My unused tracks are approaching an entire cup's worth. They all were boring or uninspired, but they'll remain in the resulting archive for people to see.

Yeah hopefully I won't have to create an entire Beta Cup, but I'm seriously debating myself whether or not I'll be re-doing some of my work for Joker Cup, up to this point I have 3 tracks that for sure will last 'til the final product is ready, but at this point there might be 1 more track that'll make it to the Beta section. Not sure yet..

UPDATE:

 

Haven't gotten any new preview out but a couple of snapshots though.

 

As of  now I've got four Joker tracks nailed down that I consider myself mildly happy with. Made some progress on Queen 5 but haven't gotten anything finished yet.

The purpose of this update mainly being a glimpse before I record a final preview before uploading it, though I'm not saying that time will come anytime soon though.

Difficult to say, still in progress.
Queen 5 got replaced but then I had second thoughts. AGAIN
Also I've decided to redo Jack 1 and Queen 1. I think I'm happy with Joker 5 but it needs some serious polish.

Things have been going quietly for the last year but whatever progress there's been it's not like I'm putting this project on ice permenantly.
I'm just not in a position where I can make time to work on it very often, and I tend to stick to the rule of only creating when I feel like doing so for the best possible outcome.

Nice to see there's still some interest left in the custom course department!

I made a video showcasing the editing proccess in the EK for the upcoming trackset as well as doing a test drive. This is Queen 1 - Port Town 1.
The track was already made beforehand so that I wouldn't have to start entirely from scratch.

This is a tedious proccess nonetheless.
