Real velocity in F-Zero MV flaps

In the last days i played B2 flap and i asked me what is the real velocity of the flap. With the boost you take 602km/h but if you use DDT your real velocity is higher; so i decided to make some calculations.

 

  • First i made some laps without drift and i tried to make the same trajectory of the flap

  • Then i supposed that the average velocity was 454km/h (if you look the JV's velocity oscillates by 452km/h to 456km/h)
  • After that i calculated the average time in the lap without drift, It is 23"75175 so i rounded off to 23"75
  • v= velocity; t=time; s=space

v=s/t   and so   s=vt

s=(454/3,6)m/s*23,75s=2995m

  • Now is very simple to calculate the real velocity!

v=2995m/16,90s=177,2m/s    so   638km/h!!!

This is Tim's real velocity, mine is 629km/h Smile

Probably this method has some imprecisions, but I think that the result is very close to reality. In this way is also possible quantify how much is useful DDT!!

So now we know B2 is about 3 km long! That's really hard to imagine. I wonder why it’s important to take the average lap time? My flap of 16”90 is not an average of my flap attempts. So wouldn’t it be better to take the fastest lap? (23”6Cool. Then you would get the tighter route which would be closer to my flap route. I’m not sure… maybe you can explain it to me. Anyway, I just did a similar calculation with my 0-boost lap.

V = s / t = 2986 m / 21,80 s = 136,972 m/s * 3,6 = 493,100 km/h = 493 km/h (I used the 23”6Cool

That's 39 km/h higher than your average speed of 454 km/h. If I take your calculation for the flap the difference from 596 to 639 is 43 km/h. All this shows is that there isn't much of a difference between DDT without boost and DDT with boost. The speed that is gained solely from the DDT is about 40 km/h.

I’m wondering now if B2 is maybe not the best example for these calculations. The drifts over ice are known to be faster compared to normal ground. That one hang drift most likely is a lot faster than 639 km/h. But this brings me to my next matter. Since hang drifts kind of resemble a JDT, just in a weaker form and with holding gas, I remembered something from the official Japanese site:

I think this is about the JDT. If it is then I suppose it says that during the JDT 128 km/h is added to your speed. That is not visible on the speedometer. There is also something about vectors. Maybe those 128 km/h are added at the moment you are at 640 km/h. For a progressed JDT with maybe 550 km/h it might be down to 110 extra km/h? (through rule of three)

Richard, could you translate some of that?

Edit: I corrected the average boost speed to 596 km/h. I noticed on my K2 run the speed usually oscillates between 590 and 602. Sometimes the speed even falls down to 588.

I used the average time because i wanted know the real velocity; probably the best time that I made (without drift) isn't good for my calculations because probably I drifted in some place ( probably after the first hard curve near the end of the lap); so i made a lot of laps for take a better average time. I also think that the worst time should not take for the calculations because probably in it i went in the ellectricity zone... I tried this thing a lot time ago when i used for the first time the JDT in the champ; i used JV with low power, if you note if your power is very low your speed go down and sometimes your speed doesn't oscillate but it takes only one number, in this way you can use that number for calculate the space. For the 128km/h that is added to your velocity if you use JDT I have a theory: all computers use binary base for its calculations, 128 in binary base is 1000000 so it is very simple to "remember", I think that because if you note when you are on the mud your speed goes down until 256km/h that in binary base is 10000000, I think that there are a lot of strange things about drift and about other... It would be good if Richard can translate Japanese's text.

i suppose that if the speedometer was like the GX one, you'd see these speeds on it.
