F-Zero Maximum Velocity Spreadsheet
Reply to this Post

Hello ! I've begun a small project that aims to reunite every possible combinations of machines and tracks from MV to create some sort of Time Attack repository. Here it is : docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JQUr3IHjZzUjx-CgluFnu0BbrxzplsuFiaRtiuC4iWc/edit#gid=0

I was inspired by Yoshifan's Machines vs Staff Ghosts for F-Zero GX and Vallkyr's F-Zero Climax Spreadsheet, and given how much fewer runs are needed to complete this spreadsheet, I think there is an actual chance of having the whole thing done. And although real console performances are much more preferred, for the sake of completing this spreadsheet, I'm willing to allow emulation runs, as long as they were done at 60 fps (which means no TAS runs or runs with slowed down speed). This is F-Zero, not a snail race :O

... I think that's about it. I've added some runs already (especially the Jet Vermilion ones, although I couldn't find some of the WRs in this game, so I went with the best run that has a recording). Annotations for specific runs have been made to specify if it was done in Grand Prix mode or not.

If you know of any runs that could be added, do not hesitate to reply here. ('w')

On my side I've completed the Championship track with each machine (except for JV obviously). I'll upload them all at once soon enough.

Pick any machine/track combination you think you can take on. Once you've completed and uploaded your run, all you need is to post it here or contact me personally. Then I'll do what's necessary to put it on the spreadsheet. That is all ('w')

Only video times accepted? Masao had times with all machines on all courses on his site and he was a fairly good player. This would fill out your spreadsheet more quickly if you were to add them but they don't have videos:

https://web.archive.org/web/20070213145041/http://fzeroworld.jp/gba/machine.htm

I think this kind of competition shouldn't have the same strictness as we have for proving "real" world records. Maybe screenshots for attempts done on console could be used so more people can compete in it more easily. As you know it's quite a hassle to record stuff for GBA games. If you allow emulator as well, those will need to have videos of course.

Here are some more video records that can be added:

Q2 with Wind Walker: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22955977

QF with Fireball: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23016493

P1 with Fighting Coment: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22945556

P1 with Stingray: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23423407

BF with JB Crystal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPILIC6AE0U

If you add non-videos times, you can also update the JV WR's to all the current ones. They are all legit. There also more non-JV times to be found in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeEfOvXbsJk

At around 2:22 BPA shows those times, I guess most were done with Fighting Comet but also other machines made it to #1 in those rankings.

Well, the F-Zero GX spreadsheet has a "No Video" tab, so I could always add the times shown on this site over there. But that will take some time to do, so for now I'll just add the videos. And thanks for your contribution, I'll get to the edit ASAP Smile

EDIT : I've uploaded my Championship runs earlier. I'll go make the "No Video" tab.

EDIT 2 : I've added the "No Video" tab and all noteworthy times, thanks to TBK's informations. ('w')

Very nice work, forgot to mention that even lower ranked times in Ben's video with different machines probably beat Masao. You already noticed that though. Can you also make a combined tab with all the fastest times regardless if they have a video or not? Wouldn't need much work, just copy/paste the few video times into a copy of the non-video tab.

I think most of Masao's times are pretty outdated, doubt he put too much effort into them so maybe even not so good players can beat them.

You mean like the "Time Ranks" on the F-Zero GX spreadsheet ? Sadly I have no idea how to do that (it's my first spreadsheet), so it will have to wait until I figure that out. Besides, the GX one uses all the times that got a video to calculate that. So right now, it's not gonna happen yet. :/

Well, pretty sure Masao's Championship times aren't since I couldn't beat them myself (in fact, subbing 1'40 with Hot Violet seemed impossible to me until now). xD

No not ranks, only the fastest times. Right now you have the "Main" tab with video records and another "No Video" tab. What I meant was a combination of the two where only the fastest records can be seen (regardless of whether there is a video or not). Personally I'm only interested in the fastest times.

I guess some of Masao's times are actually strong then haha. I'm pretty sure though not all of them are like this. If I come across a cheap GBA I might give some of these times a go, definitely a cool challenge on the side and not as mentally draining as going for the JV records.

Ah, I see what you mean now. My pet peeve about it is that it would look redundant to have. I'll still think about it, but I'm not too sure if I'll actually add another tab for that.

GBA, GBA SP, Micro GBA or even a DS / DS Lite would do the trick. But I wouldn't know about finger placements around the console itself. I bet this plays a part in playing MV well.

And beating Masao's Fighting Comet on Pawn 2...

This spreadsheet looks exciting Smile gonna have a lot of fun tackling Masao's old times.

Is there any rules on what mode we can set times? The thought of trying to use mines on GP mode with JB Crystal makes me smile.

Grand Prix Mode, Training Mode... Anything goes, so long as it's a 5-lap run done with no major slowdowns. And I'm sure you will ('w')

Years ago we did a few non JV competitions in the F-Zero Haven forum. Not sure if you can still access backups of that anywhere.

I remember getting 1:43.23 on B1 using Wind Walker.

Sadly, I couldn't find the site somehow. If you still have the address, check out Google Cached View to, well, view the caches of the site. And your submission has been added on the spreadsheet. ('w')

A rather huge update to the spreadsheet has been made thanks to Yoshifan's indirect help, by providing a link to this japanese player named Yoyoyoro, who did Time Attack for all F-Zero GBA games. Some of his/her times are better than the older ones, and so the spreadsheet has been updated accordingly. Here's the link : http://page.freett.com/yoyoyoro/for_gba/time_all_ship.html

Very cool, that player is also known as 444. I'll try for some of these times when my GBA arrives.

Was it done on Grand Prix mode or in Time Attack ? It has been added in either case. I also have a Queen Final run with Falcon Mk-II ready to be recorded. I'll try and have that ASAP. ('w')

EDIT : 1'55"73 on QF with Falcon Mk-II : https://youtu.be/G-lbfxg08Ns

SparkWolfx, that Hot Violet P1 was set in time trial mode. Nice one with the new videos Smile

Only one new time to report here: 1'37"08 on B3 using Silver Thunder. I'll try record a 1'36 later today.

EDIT: 1'36"62 on video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8mtTbSyfpTzM2RjU190bk5vN0k/view?usp=sharing
EDIT 2: 1'45"74 on Q3 using Silver Thunder, no video.
EDIT 3: 1'32"54 on Q1 using Silver Thunder, no video.
EDIT 4: Old time I've just noticed on my cartridge: 1'28"74 on Q1 using Sly Joker.
