i decided to recap the tracks posted in the custom tracks at old MFO since people might want to still make them when the level editor BGNG is making is complete or if they get a 64DD + EK.

^ I don't mean to be discouraging, but that course might be a little too crazy for F-Zero X. Even if it does load, the machines in X are very floaty and fly off almost any kind of incline with ease. Your course looks like a deathtrap.

 As someone who has started making tracks in a bit more of a track-packey light, how exactly do you guys test your tracks? I'm coming across interesting stuff that can result in changes, but in any scenario, what methods do you like to use to ensure your track(s) play as intended?

 It depend on what you want to do with your tracks. If you want them to be championship friendly, means you want the cpus to finish your custom tracks, you need to test that first. In any case you need to adjust the difficulty of your tracks by playing them over and over, thinking about how you want the player to handle them and figure out where to place them in a pack seeing their difficulties and how the CPU is running on them (depending on their design) if championship friendly. Not an easy task ! Good luck !

Testing for me is just making sure that...

  1. The track loads to begin with, and when it does, it doesn't have pieces where the track warps in terms of collision, and
  2. It fulfills the goal I have set for the track, bringing into question what defines the track in terms of fairness vs CPU, challenge to learn/master, and aesthetics.

Just chuck it in a clean ROM and hope for the best. First run is always without using the machine booster to see if the track itself is good, followed by a run using boosters. These tests are rather inaccurate because I'm playing with a keyboard (as opposed to a GC controller), but I can get a feel for how well I would do if I did use a controller. That is part of another point to consider: Can you, yourself, complete what you have created fairly smoothly? I've seen a lot of YouTube videos of FZX custom tracks where the creators are clearly still in the stage where they made something insane with tall hills and 10m wide, no-walled sections that kills the CPU but they don't seem like they're having fun completing even one lap without having to use the brake or idling through an upside-down bend going up. This game is all about speed, and that shouldn't be penalized, or else it just isn't fun.

 To Thunder_Luigi; NEOTERRA 1st personal course record by XaikuTheMaverickHunter (me) via F-Zero X Expansion Kit: 02'12"346 with a best lap time of 00'42"323 with the Super Falcon. Quite a nice adaptation of N64 Bowser's Castle you've made there.
