Fastest known Opening and 1-Boost Laps
Reply to this Post

I thought, and in snes it shouldn't be that hard to find out, so asking if someone has done this yet:

Found all best openers and best 1 boost laps? would be nice to see how far a wr could be pushed.

EDIT by TBK and edward406:

Last Update: 04.03.2019

Note: Some theoretical times may not add up exactly. This is due to taking into account the effect of odd frame lap times.

Best NTSC splits for Japanese players (excluding Matsumuro, Morishita and Karasawa because we have no splits information for them):

MC1: 25"41 - 23"19 x 4 = 1'58"17
BB: 27"13 - 24"90 x 4 = 2'06"73
SO: 29"79 - 27"59 x 4 = 2'20"15
DW1: 22"86 - 20"22 x 4 = 1'43"74
SI: 24"15 - 21"76 x 4 = 1'51"19

MC2: 26"34 - 23"60 x 4 = 2'00"74
PT1: 21"67 - 18"46 x 4 = 1'35"51
RC1: 22"76 - 20"04 x 4 = 1'42"92
WL1: 24"77 - 22"52 x 4 = 1'54"85
WL2: 28"77 - 24"65 x 4 = 2'07"37

MC3: 25"96 - 23"20 x 4 = 1'38"76
DW2: 24"55 - 21"57 x 4 = 1'50"83
PT2: 28"76 - 25"78 x 4 = 2'11"88
RC2: 29"13 - 26"38 x 4 = 2'14"65
FF: 41"91 - 37"32 x 3 - 36"66 = 3'10"53

Lets wait for Kalle to come in with his splits too.

Indeed, that TAS run imo isn't very good (or rather the strat used is a little flawed). The 23"19 strat Faust used for this split did not involve mud cutting the final corner, so it's more consistent, hence the same total with the same opener despite the TAS's best lap being 0"02 quicker. Besides, it's a TAS, useless for what Joel wants.

Was looking on the Forum and found this thread. I really like the premise, though it appears as though Legend has outdated some of these times. Would it be possible to have an update at all? I figure I would ask you to update since you know where to find any other times.

There is something i found out-while doing TAS and then testing it- about best splits in the game. For example we chose Mute City 1:

25"36-23"10-23"10-23"10-23"10 =1'57"76 is not possible if:

-23"10 is the fastest possible lap time with the used strat.

My theory is summed in one sentence:"A lap time that is gotten in 2 laps which come after the other, the lap time can't be the fastest possible lap time"

result of that is that a run with a fastest lap (if 23"10 is the fastest possible with this strat) is like that:

25"36-23"10-23"11-23"10-23"110 =1'57"78

or

25"36-23"11-23"10-23"11-23"110 =1'57"78

And so we have the new best splits here. the once in (xx'xx"xx) are the practical best times that can be gotten.I also inserted the difference between WR and Best Splits. And that makes it clear that everyone who is searching for a WR should try Silence 1

@FunStyle Thanks man! It's interesting to see what the available margin of improvement is for all the tracks. Also, I was doing some WR attempts for DWII tonight. Got a 24"54 for an opener and a 21"54 on one of my laps, my best one boost lap I have seen so far. No pics, but I'll make sure to take some if it happens again. 24"54 - 21"54 x 4 = 1'50"70

@RichardTaro That's a really cool find! I wonder how they gathered all the times, or if there was a tournament of sorts back in 1992. Do you know what the little stars signify?

These times were printed in a magazine in late 1991/early 1992, with times updated each issue. I guess proof requirements were down to photographs and, perhaps, VHS tapes sent to the 'zine's office. It's worth noting that the player who has 1'58"41 on Mute City 1 is actually LEGEND.
